SUBMITTING YOUR OWN ARTWORK:
SUBMITTING IDEAS
If you have an idea, sketch or
other non-digital artwork for your tshirt order, here are
some tips on what will help us get your ideas printed.
IS YOUR IDEA STUCK IN YOUR HEAD?
That's ok. Our designers are experts at
picking your brain. When you meet with your marketing representative
about your order, you will have any opportunity to speak with
an artist. If you're not ready at that time, you can call
to make a face-to-face or telephone appointment to discuss
your ideas.
DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING ON PAPER?
Well then, you probably fall into one of
two categories:
"I'm not an artist!" or "I am an artist!"
FOR THE NON-ARTIST
Don't despair. Our designers have seen
it all, from the "3-headed man" to the "I drew
this while I was driving through a rainstorm" sketch.
Also, clients sometimes bring in clip art they've seen other
places saying, "We want something like this, but not
really." Either way, our artists can take your idea and
"make it look good." We'll talk with you about your
idea, determine what you want changed about the images you've
brought in, and take it from there.
FOR THE ARTIST
If you have your own drawing you would
like to use in your design, there are a few tips that will
ensure the best print job:
1. Cartoon-type or outline drawings scan and print best if
we receive the outline portion in black ink on white paper
without any color fills. Once we scan your art, we can easily
change the color to something other than black, or fill in
areas with ink colors of your choosing.
2. Pencil drawings do not scan or print well.
3. Color media such as crayon, colored pencil, paint, etc can
often scan and print well, depending on the colors used, but
will sometimes need to be printed in 4-color process (see WHAT
YOU NEED TO KNOW).
4. Hand-written letters are not always advisable for screen
printing, especially small sizes. We recommend that all small
text be re-typeset to ensure that letters don't become unreadable
in the printing process.
5. If we feel that a design will not scan and print well,
as is, we may need to re-create it by tracing elements, scanning
& inserting color digitally. Our designers can usually
advise you right away whether this will be necessary. In this
case, we make every effort to maintain the integrity of your
artwork, while ensuring that it will print well. Of course,
we will always ask you to review and approve it before it
goes to press.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO USE SOMEONE ELSE'S ARTWORK?
Dux D'Lux can not print copyrighted artwork
without permission from the copyright owner. If you would like
to use a design, photo, logo or graphic you have seen produced
by another company, Dux D'Lux can create something SIMILAR,
but will not print the exact artwork. If you don't know the
source of the design you've seen, it is still best to use something
similar rather than an exact representation. If you would like
to use a copyrighted image in your design, Dux will print the
design only if you sign a waiver of responsibility for the use
of the image.
Dux D'Lux holds a license to use several university, fraternity
and sorority names and logos. Any design using these references
must be submitted to appropriate licensing boards for approval
before printing.
