  Once again, the Starkville Area Arts Council has done a stellar job in preparation for this Saturday’s Cotton District Arts Festival in Starkville.

  This award-winning event is an annual celebration of life and art. In addition to artisan vendors and a juried fine art show, the Festival also features a variety of musical, choral, dance and theatrical presentations in several stages located throughout the event. There is fun planned for the entire family, four-footed and all. In addition to the popular Taste of Starkville, a showcase of local restaurant offerings, visitors will enjoy a Pet Parade, 5K run, Children’s Village, Celtic Village, International Village, Writer’s Village and much more!

  Held in the nationally-acclaimed Cotton District, a stunning example of architecture in the new urbanist style, the Cotton District Arts Festival is an ideal way to spend your Saturday surrounded by great art, great music, great performances, and great food–all in one of the most photographed areas of our dynamic community.   The dog days of summer may be over, but the canines are getting their day in Starkville this weekend! Dux D’Lux is very excited to be a sponsor of the BARK IN THE PARK FESTIVAL and 5K/1 Mile Fun Run this Saturday, September 19. The fun-filled event is open to the public and benefits the Oktibbeha County Humane Society. Registration for the Run begins at 7:30am and the race starts at 8:30am.

  Max, our office greeter weighed in on the design for some great “shelter dog” bandanas Dux is providing for the event!

  Held at the Starkville Sportsplex, the festival will feature a day of family fun with dog games, demonstrations, food, entertainment, kids activities and more. Bring your friends and your dogs and support OCHS!

  Noshing for “Locavores”

  The New Oxford American Dictionary chose the word “LOCAVORE” as it’s 2007 word of the year. Why? Because a “locavore” is one who seeks out locally produced foods, and it’s a growing movement!

  Starkville’s solution for the locavore taste of choice is the Starkville Commmunity Market. This open-air event held each Saturday from May to October in downtown Starkville is in its second year of operation, boasting rave reviews from area residents and growers.

  The Market offers shoppers a great opportunity to get locally-grown produce and hand-crafted items straight from the growers and crafters, many using organic techniques. The open-air format makes it great fun for the whole family. Dux D’Lux has been honored to work with SCM to produce Market tshirts, cloth grocery totes and even some wooden $5 coupon coins! (Yes, I said wooden–the kind the local hardware store gave your grandfather back in the day.)

  Please come out and support the Starkville Community Market (or look for a local farmer’s market in your area). You’ll find great food and crafts, and use your dollars to support local growing enterprises!

  Dux D’Lux has worked with the Starkville Area Arts Council for the past few months in creating a new web presence for the organization. We are also very excited to offer our support in promoting this weekend’s Starshine fundraising event. You won’t want to miss a weekend of gourmet food, great art and good fun.

  Starshine includes a Friday night Chef’s Cook-off and tasting featuring local chefs. Then, on Saturday, you can enjoy a Cooking Class with this year’s celebrity chef, Robert St.John and receive the mornings recipes and an autographed cookbook. On Saturday evening, the highlight of the weekend will be a four-course meal created by Chef St.John and a silent auction–all benefiting SAAC activities in our area.

  The Starkville Area Arts Council is one of the stellar organizations within the Starkville community that is committed to promoting and enhancing our burg’s top-notch quality of life. We’ve been working on the marketing program for the Starkville Convention and Visitors Bureau for years and like to use the phrase, “small town charm and big city opportunities” to describe our locale. We’re proud of the diverse options available in our little Southern town, and SAAC is certainly a big part of Starkville’s vibrance!

  Dux D’Lux recently completed a re-design of the SAAC website to give the organization’s online presence a fresh (and more cohesive) look, as well as expand the opportunity to showcase area Arts opportunities and working artists. The new website not only offers an updated color scheme and site organization, it also includes expanded information about SAAC sponsored events and links to regional arts venues. One of the great new features in the re-design is an online member artist gallery showing examples of some of our community’s excellent artists with contact information for commissions and gallery showings.

  As a companion to the newly designed starkvillearts.org, we also implemented an Arts News blog to be used as a vehicle for more quickly updating members and the public about news and events. The blog is designed with a “look” similar to the website and will hopefully serve as an arts resource for our community. Go subscribe for SAAC info!

  Speaking of news on great SAAC happenings, the annual StarShine fundraising event is coming up August 7-8, and it looks yummy! Check out the StarShine page and call to book your tickets. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to support the Arts in Starkville, and the organization that makes it happen!
