  In honor of TAILGATING WEEK: A super fund-raising idea!

  A Super Fundraising idea!

  Dux D’Lux was delighted recently to work with the Parents in Public Schools program in West Point, MS to produce spirit-building items and a successful fund-raising campaign.

  Through contacts in our Facebook account, PIPS approached Dux D’Lux about producing some custom flags the organization was interested in hanging at each school in the system to build excitement and community pride. We helped them created simple but effective standard 3 x 5′ green flags to reflect their team colors.

  Then, PIPS came up with a great fund-raising idea to capitalize on their high school fan base, spurred by years of successful football teams. We were so pleased they decided to work with Dux to create fan tee shirts targeting men, women and Green Wave fans of all ages. The Dux D’Lux art staff produced designs for both black and pink tee shirts from the group’s ideas, and we were able to keep the costs down by sticking with 2-color artwork.

  PIPS kicked off their year and took tee shirt orders while Tailgating at WPHS’ first home football game. We printed over 500 tee shirts and completed them just in time for homecoming! Way to go, PIPS for your excellent work in support of West Point public schools!

  Eco-friendly products for the pool construction industry

  When Frank Wall called Dux D’Lux to inquire about our marketing services, the first question he asked Haley Montgomery was, “Are you the girl who likes frogs?” The Queen had included a blurb about Haley in our company newsletter explaining her love of watercolor painting and the collection of frogs on her desk. The tidbit sparked Frank’s interest because he was looking to create a point-of-purchase display for one of his product innovations featuring a watercolor frog. That was over 10 years ago, and Dux D’Lux has been helping Frank market his inventive products ever since!

  In 2008, Frank began a new company called Frank Wall Enterprises for which we were excited to design a great website! The company’s mission is to provide innovative products to the pool construction industry based on Frank’s 30+ years of experience as a successful pool builder. He seeks out products that will make the construction process easier for the builder and offer the best innovative options for their pool customers. He’s recently highlighted some exciting products that are environmentally friendly!

  Frank’s flagship product is the AquaForms forming system. This re-usable aluminum modular system allows builders to create building forms for their pools much more quickly, saving the additional time and resources required in hand-building pool forms for each construction project. Dux D’Lux was able to consult with Frank on the naming of the product as well as design the logo.

  Additionally, Frank Wall Enterprises also offers

  FLEXI-Forms, a Flexible concrete form board to form and pour concrete pool decks, sidewalks, patios, driveways and any concrete surface with curves and tight radiuses. The plastic FlexiFORM board is manufactured with 100% recycled HDPE plastics — the kind found in milk bottles! In fact, one roll of FlexiFORM is made from 129 plastic milk jugs! Unlike other types of plastic, HDPE is the most environmentally stable — giving off no harmful fumes into the environment. The Healthy Building Network recommends HDPE resin-based products as the most environmentally friendly plastic building materials.

  Way to go, Frank! Thanks for providing your industry with environmentally sensitive product solutions. Oh, and thanks for asking us about our frogs!

  Mark Your Calendar: Dogs Have Their Day

  The dog days of summer may be over, but the canines are getting their day in Starkville this weekend! Dux D’Lux is very excited to be a sponsor of the BARK IN THE PARK FESTIVAL and 5K/1 Mile Fun Run this Saturday, September 19. The fun-filled event is open to the public and benefits the Oktibbeha County Humane Society. Registration for the Run begins at 7:30am and the race starts at 8:30am.

  Max, our office greeter weighed in on the design for some great “shelter dog” bandanas Dux is providing for the event!

  Held at the Starkville Sportsplex, the festival will feature a day of family fun with dog games, demonstrations, food, entertainment, kids activities and more. Bring your friends and your dogs and support OCHS!

  Noshing for “Locavores”

  The New Oxford American Dictionary chose the word “LOCAVORE” as it’s 2007 word of the year. Why? Because a “locavore” is one who seeks out locally produced foods, and it’s a growing movement!

  Starkville’s solution for the locavore taste of choice is the Starkville Commmunity Market. This open-air event held each Saturday from May to October in downtown Starkville is in its second year of operation, boasting rave reviews from area residents and growers.

  The Market offers shoppers a great opportunity to get locally-grown produce and hand-crafted items straight from the growers and crafters, many using organic techniques. The open-air format makes it great fun for the whole family. Dux D’Lux has been honored to work with SCM to produce Market tshirts, cloth grocery totes and even some wooden $5 coupon coins! (Yes, I said wooden–the kind the local hardware store gave your grandfather back in the day.)

  Please come out and support the Starkville Community Market (or look for a local farmer’s market in your area). You’ll find great food and crafts, and use your dollars to support local growing enterprises!

  We always love it when our Bulldogs are back in town! Even though the university is in full swing year-round, there is always an added sense of excitement in August when thousands of students come back home to Mississippi State and Starkville. Classes have been in session for over a week now, and administration, faculty and students are about the business of the Fall semester! With football season beginning next week and the upcoming Fall calendar filled with events, we take pride in being a resource for the screen printing, embroidery, promotional product and design needs of so many campus departments and organizations.   Dux D’Lux has worked with the Starkville Area Arts Council for the past few months in creating a new web presence for the organization. We are also very excited to offer our support in promoting this weekend’s Starshine fundraising event. You won’t want to miss a weekend of gourmet food, great art and good fun.

  Starshine includes a Friday night Chef’s Cook-off and tasting featuring local chefs. Then, on Saturday, you can enjoy a Cooking Class with this year’s celebrity chef, Robert St.John and receive the mornings recipes and an autographed cookbook. On Saturday evening, the highlight of the weekend will be a four-course meal created by Chef St.John and a silent auction–all benefiting SAAC activities in our area.

  The Starkville Area Arts Council is one of the stellar organizations within the Starkville community that is committed to promoting and enhancing our burg’s top-notch quality of life. We’ve been working on the marketing program for the Starkville Convention and Visitors Bureau for years and like to use the phrase, “small town charm and big city opportunities” to describe our locale. We’re proud of the diverse options available in our little Southern town, and SAAC is certainly a big part of Starkville’s vibrance!

  Dux D’Lux recently completed a re-design of the SAAC website to give the organization’s online presence a fresh (and more cohesive) look, as well as expand the opportunity to showcase area Arts opportunities and working artists. The new website not only offers an updated color scheme and site organization, it also includes expanded information about SAAC sponsored events and links to regional arts venues. One of the great new features in the re-design is an online member artist gallery showing examples of some of our community’s excellent artists with contact information for commissions and gallery showings.

  As a companion to the newly designed starkvillearts.org, we also implemented an Arts News blog to be used as a vehicle for more quickly updating members and the public about news and events. The blog is designed with a “look” similar to the website and will hopefully serve as an arts resource for our community. Go subscribe for SAAC info!

  Speaking of news on great SAAC happenings, the annual StarShine fundraising event is coming up August 7-8, and it looks yummy! Check out the StarShine page and call to book your tickets. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to support the Arts in Starkville, and the organization that makes it happen!
