SAFETY PROGRAMS
APRIL 2000
The numbers are staggering. The National Safety Council reports
that in 1998, 3.8 million workers suffered disabling injuries
on the job. Statistics show that accidents cost American businesses
an estimated $480.5 billion in related expenses such as lost
wages, medical expenses and property damage each year. That's
right --- each year. Implementing Safety Programs allows companies
to take an active roll in preventing costly workplace injuries.
Safety Programs can be implemented
in a variety of ways. Some companies choose to give employees
safety related products on a regular basis (monthly or quarterly).
These giveaways are not based on performance, but serve to keep
safety at the forefront of an employees' mind. Other companies
develop an incentive program where employees receive awards
for meeting company safety goals. Both types of programs are
effective in keeping workers thinking about safety issues. Safety
products can also help companies get involved in home safety.
Many businesses recognize that an employee's performance is
greatly affected by off-the-job health and safety habits. Giving
safety-related items for the home boosts employee/community
relations.

One company that has made safety
a priority is Weyerhaeuser's timberlands division. For the past
several years, Dux D'Lux has researched and implemented a yearly
safety program for Weyerhaeuser Timberlands across the country.
This program consists of a monthly safety related product imprinted
with the Weyerhaeuser logo that is sent to each employee's home.
Each product ranges from $2 - $10. Dux D'Lux designs a "Safety
Tip" that is included in each package. At the beginning of each
fiscal year Dux D'Lux offers a proposal of products including
costs for the entire year. After the proposal is approved, our
staff takes care of ordering the products, producing the safety
tips, packaging, and bulk mailing the items. The clients are
simply responsible for providing address labels for the employees
at their location.
Safety Programs can be implemented
at a variety of price points. If you provide Dux D'Lux with
your budget or a target price per item, we can suggest products
that will remind employees of the importance of safety at home
and in the workplace. We can provide a comprehensive Safety
Program and handle all the details for you.
Companies can not afford to
ignore the importance of on-the-job safety. If employers can
prevent even one accident by spending $1000 on a safety program,
they will have saved a hundred times what that accident would
cost in workman's compensation, medical expenses and property
damage. Safety Programs prove once again, "you're better safe
than sorry."
